VCUarts Qatar invites applications for an adjunct faculty position to teach ARTH 103: Survey of Art I. This is a part-time adjunct appointment dependent on departmental needs. The Department of Art History seeks a dynamic and student-centered educator to teach an introductory survey course covering art from the prehistoric era through the 13th century. The course includes examples from selected regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, and introduces students to visual analysis and other art historical methods through illustrated lectures and discussion. Adjunct faculty are valued members of the academic environment at VCUarts Qatar and are expected to contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and learning-centered community of students, faculty, and staff. ARTH 103. Survey of Art I. 3 Hours. Semester course; 3 lecture hours, delivered online and face-to-face. 3 credits. This introductory survey of art examines artistic production from the prehistoric era through the 13th century, including examples from selected regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Illustrated lectures demonstrate visual analysis and other art historical methods while identifying key monuments and artists’ work in relation to historical contexts. Key Responsibilities Teach ARTH 103: Survey of Art I in accordance with the approved course description, learning outcomes, and departmental expectations. Prepare and deliver lectures, readings, assignments, discussions, and assessments that support student learning. Introduce students to visual analysis, art historical methods, key monuments, artists, and historical contexts. Provide timely feedback and academic support to students. Maintain regular communication with students and the department regarding course expectations, progress, and academic matters. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress using university systems. Foster a respectful, professional, and intellectually engaging classroom environment. Adhere to departmental and university policies and procedures. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Art History or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level or relevant professional experience in art history, museum studies, curatorial practice, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCUarts Qatar. Eligibility to work in Qatar or meet applicable immigration/employment requirements under Qatari law. Preferred Qualifications PhD in Art History or a closely related field. Previous experience teaching art history survey courses at the university level. Experience using learning management systems and educational technology. Experience teaching in international or multicultural higher education environments. Evidence of student-centered teaching practices.
