    About the Department:

    The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies (NFS) is committed to educating future leaders in nutritional sciences, dietetics, and promoting clinical and community research, outreach, and engagement. We offer several infrastructure and collaborative resources within the department and the College of Public Health (CPH).

    The Department of NFS, in the CPH, has several faculty members with strong, clinical/translational and community focused research programs in clinical nutrition, human metabolism, obesity, and co-morbid conditions (e.g., diabetes, cancer, sarcopenia), food systems and food insecurity, and also community-level interventions.

    The Department of NFS offers 2 undergraduate minors: one in Food Systems, and the other in Nutrition. Our Master of Science degree offers concentrations in Public Health (MPH), Food Security, and Nutrition. We also offer Graduate Certificates in Food Security and Nutrition. Our 2-year graduate program in Nutrition and Dietetics (GPND; MS) meets the criteria for the Future Education Model by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), and prepares students to sit for the RDN registration exam.

    About the Position:

    The Department of Nutrition and Food Studies (NFS) has a position for a faculty member with demonstrated research excellence in the area of Clinical and or Community Nutrition to join a growing department of 9 full time faculty. The position contributes to the university’s mission through teaching, research, and service by serving as a faculty member in our graduate and undergraduate programs. The department has master’s degree (MS) programs which include a new Graduate Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (GPND), as well as general MS degrees with concentrations. NFS faculty also have the opportunity to teach undergraduate programs across our minors and concentrations. Clinical faculty may also provide supervision of students at affiliated clinics. All NFS faculty engage in service activities within the department, college, university, community, and the profession.

    Responsibilities:

    Research:

    • Develops and maintains a high impact scholarly research program in clinical and or community nutrition or related area, via publications, presentations at professional conferences, and obtaining external funding; and
    • Guides and oversees the work and productivity of graduate assistants.

    Teaching:

    • Teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, face to face, hybrid, and fully online;
    • Mentors graduate and undergraduate students and assists in recruitment of mentees; and
    • May contribute to clinical supervision at affiliated multidisciplinary clinics (where applicable).

    Service:

    • Engages in outreach activities and performs service to the department, college, university, and the profession through involvement and leadership in national and or international professional associations.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Terminal degree in a related field;
    • Demonstrated record of peer reviewed publications;
    • Proficient in written and verbal communication in English;
    • Ability to teach at the university level, commensurate with rank; and
    • Potential to obtain extramural research grants and to engage in collaborative research projects.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Clinical experience in dietetics, nutrition, or related field;
    • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration;
    • Experience in mentoring/supervising students in a clinical/community setting;
    • Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students;
    • National/international collaborative potential/experience;
    • Ability to interact successfully and work harmoniously with colleagues and students in a diverse community;
    • Strength in biostatistics and research design;
    • Demonstrated strength and enthusiasm in research mentoring (undergraduate and graduate students); and
    • Spanish speaking an asset.
