General Information:

The Virginia Department of Education Region 5 Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) is seeking qualified and experienced education professionals to provide training and consultation related to students with disabilities’ performance in schools targeted for assistance. We are looking for dynamic candidates who are interested in a work environment that affords ongoing professional learning opportunities, collaboration with colleagues, and an opportunity to influence educational practices. These are grant-funded positions.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Respond to requests for training and technical assistance from public schools and state operated programs in Superintendent’s Region 5.
o Requests come from teachers, paraprofessionals, building-level administrators, and central office personnel.
o Requests are submitted online and disseminated to selected coordinators by the director and/or associate director based on the area of expertise required and availability
o Coordinators work in teams to address the technical assistance request

• Coordinate and deliver professional development.
o Coordinators meet with requestor and develop an action plan, review pertinent, publicly available school or division level data, and agree on a schedule including modality and frequency of training.
o Coordinators work in teams to deliver training, focusing on High Leverage Practices (HLPs) and evidence-based practices.

• Disseminate information and resources to facilitate programming.
o Coordinators upload pertinent research articles and new publications monthly to our shared office folder for use in social media, website, and e-blast communications

• Write consultation reports and newsletter articles.
o Coordinators work in small groups to write research briefs for dissemination through our quarterly newsletter. The newsletter is posted on the TTAC website. The audience is special educators and administrators.
o Consultation reports are generated for student-specific consults. Reports are written by a team of coordinators and approved for dissemination by the director/associate director. All information and data for the report is shared by the school once parent permission has been obtained.

• Collaborate with agencies, centers, and universities.
o Coordinators attend quarterly interagency meetings with various groups including but not limited to: CEEDAR, DARS, VDOE, SCHEV, and local and state special education advisory councils.
o Coordinators also collaborate with departments within the CoE and TTACs at other state universities.

• Coordinate services with the Virginia Department of Education initiatives.
o The Virginia Department of Education office of Special Populations has initiatives including but not limited to math, literacy, MTSS, classroom management, HLPs, SDI, co-teaching, inclusive practices, autism, and secondary transition.
o TTAC coordinators attend meetings when invited and participate is ad hoc work groups if requested by the VDOE.

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or higher in education, special education, psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Experience applying high-leverage practices (HLPs) for students with disabilities in the classroom setting.
• Ability to analyze data, identify needs, and collaboratively plan and provide professional development activities.
• Evidence of successful collaboration, teaming and building relationships.
• Evidence of effective communication in both written and oral formats.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles.
• Ability to manage professional time efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Pursuit of professional development and training in areas relevant to the T/TAC mission and vision.
• Ability to provide training and follow-up coaching on evidence-based instructional practices, use of technology to augment instruction, and strategies for effectively including students with disabilities, including universal design for learning, differentiation, and specially designed instruction.

• Knowledge and understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
• Experience applying evidence-based specially designed instruction in mathematics.
• Experience in evidence-based instructional/behavioral practices for students with significant cognitive disabilities.
• Knowledge and experience in evidence-based instructional/behavioral practices for students with autism.
• Experience in implementing the Virginia Essentialized Standards of Learning (VESOL).
• Experience with the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP).
