Are you an IT/ AST instructor who is passionate in your commitment to create an effective, engaging learning environment? Do you want a career full of purpose, serving students? If so, this may be the position for you!
Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a motivated 9-month IT/AST faculty member. This position will also serve as the lead faculty member for the AST program.
Responsibilities and Duties, but not limited to:
- Teaching classes with a combination of day, night, and/or weekends, and a combination of seated, online, or hybrid
- Classes may be located on or off campus, possibly in local high schools, or in a correctional center across locations served by the college
- The annual teaching load for this position is 15 credit hours (each) for Fall and Spring, 10 hours for Summer semesters
- Serves as program lead
- Mentors Adjunct Instructors
- Support students academically through advising, office hours, and student engagement.
- Participate in departmental, college, and community activities, including meetings, committees, and professional development.
- Maintains a safe and positive learning environment
- Commitment to student learning and success
- Contributes to recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in the teaching field
- A minimum of 2 years of full-time related occupational experience
- Previous teaching experience in information technology and/or administrative support technology
- Ability to evaluate student performance and provide constructive, timely feedback
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, staff, and administrators.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and instructional responsibilities
- Current Comp Tia certification in one or more of the following areas: IT Tech+, A+, Server+, Network+, Security+, and Microsoft
- Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access) or Google (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar, Drive) application software
- Experience working with students of varying academic backgrounds, age ranges, and skill levels in a diverse student population
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of current industry trends in IT and administrative technologies
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology, digital tools, and current industry practices into teaching.
- Ability to integrate workplace readiness skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving into instruction.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience with online instruction, including Canvas or similar LMS platforms.
- Two or more Comp Tia or MDS certifications.
- 5 years or more of experience in networking administration
- Help desk administration, or other supervisory IT position
- Teaching experience in both adult and dual enrollment settings
- Experience in developing and presenting course materials, assessments, and technology-based instructional materials in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats
- An understanding of the community college environment and mission
