General Description: This is a full-time 9-month teaching faculty in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The faculty member will teach EMS courses at all levels, including Basic and Paramedic. This position also serves as EMS program director. Responsibilities include developing and coordinating didactic and practical skill sessions according to national standard curriculum; conducting cognitive, psychomotor, and affective assessments; and managing various classroom activities pertaining to EMS education.
Duties and Tasks: The program director is responsible for all aspects of the program, including but not limited to:
Administration, organization, and supervision of the educational program.
Continuous quality review and improvement of the educational program.
Long range planning and ongoing development of the program.
Cooperative involvement with the medical director plus VA OEMS.
Oversight of EMS faculty teaching schedules.
Ongoing programmatic compliance with any/all accrediting body standards.
Support of program faculty and staff by fostering an environment that encourages innovative approaches, regarding curriculum development and delivery.
Evaluating and acting on results gained from student course evaluations.
Oversight of program’s annual budget.
Conducting ongoing public relations in support of the program’s continued growth.
Collaborating with regional partner and fostering relationships in support of the program.
Preparation and delivery of required course content for CoEMSP accredited program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in the teaching field and a Bachelor’s degree with demonstrated competencies to direct an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician program. Degree must be awards by a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Five years field experience as a paramedic, either volunteer or career with field experience, including the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care.
EMS education teaching experience.
Knowledge of National EMS Scope of Practice and National EMS Education Standards.
National Registry or Virginia Paramedic.
Basic Life Support (BLS) provider.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) provider.
Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator(formerly EMT Instructor + ALS Coordinator).
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Both BLS and ALS teaching experience.
Currently licensed and active advanced healthcare provider (PA, NP, MD, DO, RN) specializing in emergency medicine with previous experience as a paramedic International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider certification.
Prior experience managing an EMS program is desired
