The AEDS team partners with all 24 departments and units across the Division of Student Affairs to coordinate and advance data-informed quality improvement and storytelling efforts – particularly as it relates to programs and services, and student learning, development, experiences, well-being, and success. This position requires knowledge, skills, and abilities related to assessment and measurement, communication, collaboration, and project management.
Specifically, the Assistant Director is responsible for:
• Supporting departments and the division to collect data, primarily through IT applications and surveys, that can be meaningfully disaggregated and examined to ensure programs, initiatives, and services enhance students’ learning, development, experiences, well-being, and success.
• Serving as the survey administrator for local and national surveys that AEDS manages, including effective instrument design, implementation, analysis, and creating tailored reports that inform appropriate partners and stakeholders.
• Leading the development and completion of annual administrative unit assessment plans for departments. This involves reviewing departmental plans, providing feedback on their objectives and outcomes and measurement plans, and ensuring the timely submission of annual reports for university accreditation and improvement efforts.
• Support the Director in completing ongoing unit evaluation efforts, such as program reviews
• Carefully reviewing data, documents, and processes to identify potential errors or inconsistencies to ensure the accuracy of projects.
• Developing educational and instructional materials, such as presentations, videos, and written guides to support assessment training initiatives for student affairs educators.
• Facilitating and participating in department and divisional work groups about assessment, evaluation, and data strategy, as needed.

You will be offered a base compensation package between $65,000-$75,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, public administration, public health, organizational development, or related field.
• Adept in developing and designing educational programs and training initiatives.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the assessment process, including writing goals and measurable statements (e.g., objectives, outcomes, metrics), planning, data collection, and reporting.
• Experience with planning and managing events and/or projects. This includes managing all aspects of an event/project from initiation to completion, including planning, organizing, executing, tracking progress, and delivering the final product.
• Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills, with the ability to actively listen and engage with staff at all levels across the division and institution, while adapting to varying levels of data literacy and assessment self-efficacy.
• Proven professional ability to combine big-picture thinking with detailed project implementation to achieve goals.
• Established track record as a self-starter who is driven to deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are essential.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctoral degree in higher education/student affairs, educational research, or related field.
• Previous years of experience working in student affairs and higher education as a student affairs educator/practitioner.
• Experience with managing a third-party student affairs IT application, such as CampusGroups, Engage, Fusion, Handshake, Maxient, Slate, or StarRez.
• Previous experience with Qualtrics and Microsoft PowerBI.
