The College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a Student Services Generalist position within the College Registrar’s office. The position will work with the College Registrar, other administrative staff, and deans to maintain accurate and timely information for over 11,000 undergraduate students within Arts & Sciences.

The Student Services Generalist serves students, employees, faculty, alumni, parents, and community members with various academic requirement-related needs and will work with multiple areas within the Undergraduate College, Arts & Sciences, and UVA. This is a unique position that has the opportunity to positively impact the broad scope of students and services offered by the College of Arts & Sciences, such as:
  • Tracking students pursuing all degrees in the College of Arts & Sciences; adding required information to the student information system
  • Performing accurate entry into databases; and participating in regular communication with other schools and offices within UVA
  • Working with an array of academic-related software such as UVA’s SIS, Slate, Perceptive Content, and DocuSign.


Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of administrative, student, or customer service experience is required. Related experience in a higher education academic office is preferred.
  • The ability to work effectively with students, alumni, faculty, employers and staff
  • The ability to learn an array of information relative to A&S Area Requirements, services, and resources; prior knowledge of A&S academic requirements is preferred.
  • The ability to evaluate/assess customer needs, apply information, or make appropriate referrals
  • A demonstrated attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions is essential.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while meeting deadlines
  • The ideal candidate must have the ability to organize and prioritize assignments as well as possess effective, professional interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work independently or as part of a team is critical, as is knowledge of general record-keeping practices.
  • The candidate must also possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (with a focus on Excel and/or Access) and Database applications. Office 365 applications, SIS and UBI, and Slate are preferred.
  • Other job-related software skills can be taught on the job.


This position reports directly to the College Finance and Administrative Manager with strong ties to the College Registrar and the College Academic Programs Manager.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
