The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for one or more Visiting Assistant Professor positions to begin August 15, 2025, with a possibility of renewal. UMW is a liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to effective teaching and undergraduate research in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse talents and backgrounds. The department seeks broadly-trained biologists to teach courses in introductory biology and two or more upper-level courses to fill projected needs: human or chordate anatomy, cellular biology, exercise physiology, immunology, human physiology, or biostatistics. Candidates may also have opportunities to develop additional upper-level courses in their discipline. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching undergraduates. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours each semester. Completion of the Ph.D. is required by August 15, 2025.

Job Summary/Basic Functions

Teach 12 credit hours per semester to include teaching two or more courses from the following list: introductory biology, cellular biology, human and/or chordate anatomy, human physiology, immunology, histology, exercise physiology, and biostatistics.

Required Experience:

Experience teaching courses in biological sciences at the undergraduate level.

Additional Considerations:

Ability to teach upper level courses not currently listed in curriculum, such as epidemiology, biomechanics, medical microbiology, pathophysiology.
