The Accommodated Academic Exam Specialist works within the University of Virginia's Student Disability Access Center (SDAC) to provide oversight in scheduling and administration of accommodated academic exams to students with disabilities with approved accommodations. This position will work closely with the Assistant Director and the Accommodated Exam Coordinator.
Description:
Oversee accommodated academic exam administration for individual students with approved exam accommodations. Manage the administration and completion of exams and ensure that disability-related accommodations have been met.
Oversee all aspects of exam administration, including greeting students, ensuring that the integrity of the exam is properly maintained, printing exams, communicating with instructors, and monitoring time allotted for exam completion.
Maintain overall test proctoring schedule. Arrange and schedule usage of additional proctoring space during peak times, such as midterms and final exams, by working closely with colleagues in the Provost and Registrar’s office.
Give guidance to student proctors and staff to ensure the best practices for administering exams and exam integrity.
Work collaboratively with colleagues, particularly the Accommodated Exam Coordinator, to ensure continuity of operations into the evening hours.
Demonstrate effective time-sensitive problem-solving techniques as issues arise before, during, and after exam administration.
Ensure exam integrity by monitoring cameras installed in each testing room.
Proctor exams that are in person or over Zoom as needed.
Generate regular reports on accommodated exam usage and statistics.
Assist Director and other SDAC staff in larger mission of collaborating with and educating University faculty, deans, administrators, families, and students about disability issues and learning support systems at UVA.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School diploma. Experience: Four years of relevant experience. Bachelor's degree may substitute for years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field, i.e., business administration, special education
Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) required; knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 preferred.
Working experience in higher education (2-3 years is strongly desired), preferably with experience working with persons with disabilities.
Strong organizational and program development skills and strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated intercultural competence, and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of a diverse community.
Demonstrated integrity and ability to handle complex, sensitive, and confidential issues.
Ability to build trusting relationships with all constituencies within the university community, including students and instructors.
Experience in developing and facilitating professional training for students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to effectively manage student employees.
About the Position:
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $25.00-26.00 hourly , commensurate with qualifications and experience. The selected applicant will pass a background check and drug screen. A typical schedule would be 7:30am- 4:30pm Monday- Friday with occasional weekend hours during busy times of the year such as the final exam period. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. However, it does involve light lifting and dexterity, and requires the ability to pick up and move stacks of papers, hand out papers, load a ream of paper in the printer, etc. The job occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
