The University of Virginia’s Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences seeks applicants for an Addictions Counselor. The ideal candidate will provide individual and group counseling/therapy, recovery support for opioid and other substance use assessment/counseling, harm reduction education, and clinical consultation in our medication assisted treatment clinic. The counselor will also provide primary support for our statewide telephone opioid helpline working with callers that have concerns or questions about their opioid use or those of others, providing individualized referrals, phone intervention sessions, and educational materials. They will promote the helpline and conduct outreach, building collaborations with different addiction treatment related resources and entities across the state, working closely with the clinic team, seeking and providing feedback in order to assist in building a quality program.
This position will require:
Diagnostic assessment and ASAM evaluations
Brief treatment (individual or group therapy)
Psychoeducational groups with addiction as a focus
Participation in clinical supervision and consultation
Collaborative work with the addiction treatment team
Participation in interdisciplinary meetings and treatment planning
Creating, coordinating, and supporting an integrated addiction recovery and support program for identified patients
Documentation of patient care according to professional standards and departmental guidelines
Active participation in quality improvement, program development, and professional growth activities
Responsibility for professional development of self and contributions tothe professional development of others
Performing support activities as needed In addition to the above responsibilities, other duties may be assigned
Qualifications
Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field required
Experience: Minimum of two years of experience working with clients in recovery from substance use disorders and/or substance use counseling. Licensure: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team orientated environment
