Job Description:
Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. SVCC serves the largest community college region in the state, covering ten counties and one city.

Would you like to inspire Creativity and Cultural Understanding Through the Appreciation of Art Across Time?

Join the Southside Virginia Community College faculty and teach ART 100: Art Appreciation. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that introduces art from prehistoric times to the present day. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCC’s mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.

Course Content & Specific Duties:
  • Describe various architectural styles, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and painting techniques.
  • Highlight major artists and key contributions from both Global and Western cultures.
  • Cover course content effectively using a chronological and/or thematic approach.
  • Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards.
  • Maintain engagement through the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
  • Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Art or Art History from a regionally accredited institution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams
  • Ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments
  • Ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college and student success

Additional Considerations:

  • Teaching experience at the college level, specifically with face-to-face and online/hybrid modalities.
  • Competency using instructional technologies such as SMART boards, Zoom and Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Experience working with community college students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student engagement and academic success.
