Job Description: TJACE@PVCC, the adult education department within the Workforce Services division at Piedmont Virginia Community College, is seeking adjunct instructors to provide core skills and workplace readiness instruction to support students enrolled in industry credential programs. The division offers a variety of accelerated programs in healthcare, information technology, skilled trades and transportation. Courses may be offered day, evening, weekend, hybrid and at various locations. Job Duties:
· Plan, organize, and provide instruction in standards-based core skills (basic math, reading, writing) while covering employability topics that fall into the categories of interpersonal and personal skills (emotional intelligence, assertiveness, growth mindset, goal setting, etc.) and productivity skills (problem-solving, critical thinking, customer service, etc.)
· Integrate employability skills including computer skills into instruction
· Help students develop career pathway goals and plans
· Evaluate student learning and develop instructional strategies and individualized learning plans to meet learning goals
Develop and deliver lessons that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies to meet the needs and goals of students
Maintain complete and accurate participation and performance records
Provide a supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies/content
Maintain a positive and safe learning environment and promptly report incidents
Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement
Collaborate with faculty and staff on curriculum development, instructional design and assessment
Serve as a role model for student success
Ensure adherence to policies and procedures
Provide timely and appropriate response to student, staff and partner inquiries
Participate in departmental training, Professional Learning Community and staff meetings
Maintain professional competence, certifications/licensure
Assist in student recruitment activities and other college events
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience in teaching core skills and employability skills
Combination of education and credentials to demonstrate content expertise
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Commitment to community college philosophy and student success
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant graduate degree.
Experience teaching adult learners and/or in a community college
Experience using Canvas or similar learning management system
Ability to incorporate current technology into the classroom environment
Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and groups
Excellent problem solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans
Ability to adapt to changing work priorities
