Reporting to the Director of TRiO Programs, the administrative assistant will provide administrative, fiscal and daily operational support for the TRiO Upward Bound and Talent Search programs at Virginia Polytechnic and State University. Duties will include performing monthly reconciliations of all funding sources for TRIO Programs; maintaining accurate records of student databases; processing hiring paperwork for wage staff, graduate assistants and temporary personnel for summer camps; administering day to day office operations and procedures; purchasing, ordering and maintaining office and program supplies; maintaining and reconciling of departmental fixed assets and maintenance of the departmental Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and EAP (Emergency Action Plan). This position is federally funded by the Department of Education through both the Upward Bound and Talent Search programs.
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated excellent administrative support experience in a fast-paced, detail oriented, professional environment. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision. Previous experience providing program and fiscal support. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, self-motivated, and well-organized with strong attention to detail. Associate's degree in Business, English or related field and/or equivalent training or experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, English or a related field Experience working with students from economically and/or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds Advanced computer skills including database experience, spreadsheet/budget experience, and experience with office management software such as Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress, and Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign Experience working with confidential student information Experience working with TRiO programs and/or other state/federal education grant programs Experience with HokieMart and/or Banner systems
