Job Duties
Norfolk State University is in the process of building new public health initiatives across campus. We are seeking a professional to be an integral part of building and supporting academic and non-academic programs. This professional will also be expected to provide services that ensure a fair, equitable and quality working and learning environment for all employees and members of the university community; to proactively and creatively provide all customers with superior, innovation, and cost-effective programs and services; to continuously seek and supply all customers with the opportunities and resources needed to enhance their knowledge, skills and abilities so they may better support the mission of the university.
Additional duties and responsibilities include:
1.Administering the day-to-day activities of the office, including front desk duties and purchasing
2. Supervising the work of employees in supporting roles, including students and temporary staff
3. Interpreting policy and developing procedures
4. Organizing and managing meetings
5. Performing research and analysis on specific issues, as required, and independently preparing non-routine letters and/or reports
6. Supporting scheduling for the Executive Director
7. Establishing efficient office / business practices and procedures, including implementation of technology solutions
8. Facilitating training in administrative practices and procedures
9. Supporting administrative activities for programs
10. Applying knowledge of campus, federal and state laws, policies, rules and regulations
11. Supporting budgeting and purchasing
12. Planning, implementing and coordinating special projects, staff and resources
13. Preparing management reports
14. Applying knowledge of office/business practices
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Considerable experience in collaboration and problem solving.
3. Considerable experience in analytical and reporting skills.
4. Demonstrated working knowledge of relevant best practices
5. Considerable knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations and policies and procedures.
6. Demonstrated ability to effectively apply vision and tactics to accomplish high-impact programs.
7. Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders.
8. Demonstrated ability to initiate and execute plans in a high-paced environment.
9. Demonstrated ability to manage and build human and financial resources.
10. Considerable experience with program / program management tools and techniques.
11. An undergraduate degree or higher in business or related field.
12. At least five (5) years of experience managing an office.
13. Ability to coordinate and/or supervise diverse administrative functions
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Experience in higher education.
2. Experience setting up a new office.
3. Training in public health.
