Admissions Officers have a combination of planning and implementation responsibilities in delivering the admissions function for the University or a school within the University. They have responsibility for a particular department or function within an admissions office, such as recruitment or transfer students, often with managerial oversight of professional and administrative support staff. They support and help set goals for their departments or functions, and often allocate and supervise staff and resources, and evaluate results. Admissions Officers exercise discretion and have a degree of independence in daily decision-making in support of the school's admissions objectives .

The University of Virginia seeks an enthusiastic Admission Counselor to support the recruitment and enrollment of transfer students. Reporting to an Associate Dean of Admission, the Counselor performs duties related to the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of undergraduate transfer students.

The Enrollment division at UVA includes the Office of Undergraduate Admission, the Office of the University Registrar, Student Financial Services, and Commonwealth Partnerships. The Admission Counselor will join engaged, innovative colleagues working collaboratively to compete for talented students from all walks of life and to care for students from their first interaction with the University through Final Exercises and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to Virginia Community College System campuses to represent UVA at college fairs and other recruitment events
  • Provide counsel to prospective transfer students about the application process and timeline
  • Serve as a liaison with various stakeholders such as alumni, faculty, and other members of the University community involved in the admissions process
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of on-and off-grounds recruiting activities
  • Host informational presentations on the University and the transfer admission process
  • Field routine inquiries regarding the transfer application process and provide appropriate resources
  • Evaluate transfer applications for admission to UVA.
  • Assist with the Office of Undergraduate Admission Dean of the Day responsibilities
  • Collaborate with UVA offices in student affairs and enrollment to improve the transfer student experience


Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least three years of experience in admissions or related field or a total of eight years of experience in lieu of degree. Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; and willingness to travel and work flexible and irregular hours .


Preferred Qualifications: Experience working or serving in student services, admissions or higher education.

Physical Demands:

The job requires traveling throughout Virginia to attend meetings, and programs.

Position Type: This is a n Exempt leve l, benefited position.

Locati on : In-Perso n locate d in Charlottesville, VA .

A nticipated S tart D at e: July 1 st or sooner.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $ 48,000 - $53,000 commensurate with education and experience.

This position is a restricted position a nd has a term limit of 1-year with the possibility of 1 year extension.
