Virginia Humanities seeks a dependable and enthusiastic colleague to join our dynamic team as Advancement Associate. With special attention to donor stewardship, prospect research, data management, and cultivation events, this person will help build authentic relationships between Virginia Humanities and its growing donor base. The ideal candidate will also help imagine and implement new strategies for engaging diverse audiences in the opportunity to support Virginia Humanities philanthropically encouraging modest and first-time donations as well as deepening our connection with long-term and high-level donors.

Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Advancement Associate is responsible for maintaining accurate donor records and mailing lists, conducting prospect research to identify and support fundraising opportunities, developing and managing the advancement team calendar and inclusive donor stewardship plan, managing all print and electronic advancement communications (including appeals and solicitations, stewardship and cultivation materials, and donor acknowledgment letters), providing administrative support to the advancement team, and reporting regularly on donation activity to colleagues and board leadership.

The Associate will serve as Virginia Humanities’ primary point person for the Advance database, ensuring standards of donor data accuracy and confidentiality are upheld, mailing lists and reports are generated efficiently and accurately, and all communication with and about donors reflects preferences. Additionally, the Associate will support Virginia Humanities-wide stewardship and cultivation events, which vary in scale, frequency, style, and location across the state. The Associate should be comfortable with a wide range of tasks, from implementing a complex event invitation mailing to representing Virginia Humanities as a welcoming and knowledgeable event greeter.

Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience. Competitive candidates will have exemplary organizational, writing, and project management skills; a high degree of efficiency and accuracy; the ability to solve problems, anticipate challenges and opportunities, and take initiative when completing projects; and an eagerness to work with each donor and prospect to increase their commitment to Virginia Humanities. Experience working on a advancement team, including proficiency working with UVA’s Advance system or a similar database, is preferred. Proven skills in writing and editing, coordinating large-scale mailings, planning special events, or customer service is a plus.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This position is a restricted position and is dependent upon project need, availability of funding and performance. Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,000 - $55,000 commensurate with education and experience . This is an Exempt level, benefited position.
