The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Education seeks applications for the Anna Lou Schaberg Endowed Professor of Practice, a 12-month term non-tenure track Open Rank position. The Anna Lou Schaberg Endowed Professor of Practice will possess expertise to provide professional instruction in a manner that brings distinction to the School of Education and to VCU, make a significant impact on P-12 instruction, and support new teacher induction through professional development and scholarship. This position will support the Department of Teaching and Learning’s mission to provide effective evidence-based preparation of initial and continuing educators for P-12 schools with an aim on preparing teachers for success and impact in schools that reside in communities of poverty and those that serve historically marginalized and underserved populations. The position will provide expertise on the theory and implementation of pedagogical approaches, model pedagogical approaches, facilitate critical reflection on practice and demonstrate commitment to the success of all learners.

Position Description
Major responsibilities of the position will include the practice of teaching, engaging in service both within and outside the university, conducting School of Education, university, and public seminars in pedagogical issues, and performing other duties consistent with this definition. As a non-tenure term faculty member, research and scholarship is not a requirement but the ability to conduct work that is built on recent research and scholarship and contributing expertise to advancing scholarship is important for all faculty members. Significant contact with School of Education pre-service teachers and graduates is expected, as is the creation of a nucleus of engagement with practicing teachers, especially those in their first five years of teaching. As the Schaberg Professor of Practice, this faculty member will advance initiatives to support new teacher induction, particularly in our hardest to staff schools. Applicants with teaching and professional work experience with an emphasis on urban education and commitment to advancing access, equity, and quality education for learners from historically marginalized and underrepresented minority populations living in poverty and/or the educators that serve them are encouraged to apply. The candidate will be expected to carry a 2-2-1 teaching load.

Qualifications
Required:

- Earned doctorate in education or related field;
- A history of involvement with and sensitivity to underserved and underrepresented groups in K-12 settings;
- Significant experience in pedagogy and a distinguished record of achievement as a practitioner within the field;
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU;
- Demonstrates experience in advancing diversity, equity and inclusive excellence in previous roles and responsibilities;
- Practitioner and scholarly interests that are focused on pedagogical issues and approaches;
- Experience mentoring or supervising students in clinical settings; and

Preferred:
- Significant classroom experience, preferably in the areas of early childhood or elementary education;
- Teaching record in higher education, documented pedagogical service to schools; and
- Eligibility for licensure as classroom instructor in Virginia or another state.
- Experience securing and administering grant funds.
