The UVA School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Specialist Intermediate to join the Supporting Transformative Autism Research (STAR) Initiative’s Autism Research Core. The ARC Research Specialist Intermediate will assist with overseeing implementation of an NIH-funded intervention study focused on telehealth caregiver training for families with young children with neurodevelopmental disorders, including families from racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds. The role of this Research Specialist Intermediate will be to supervise and train exempt and non-exempt research and support personnel across three research sites in communication and challenging behavior interventions grounded in applied behavior analysis. This role may also include developing research criteria, writing and approving study protocols, and communicating with teams across partnering study sites. This role will also include coding and management of participant data, assistance in data analysis, and dissemination including co-authorship of manuscripts. The position is located at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia with the possibility of remote work from other locations within the United States. Duties include:
Formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality, identify potential problems, recommend and implement solutions, and collaborate in the development of new techniques.
Develop research criteria, determine interview procedures, and approve protocols. May also design intervention protocols.
Participate in the research funding process, including writing grant proposals. May also participate more broadly in the research administration and financial and managerial oversight of the team if the effort and commitment associated with the position funding allows for such participation.
Coordinate data collection and oversee screening and verification of data. Conduct data analysis and interpret and implement research methodologies based on outcomes of analyses.
Co-author publications and co-present results with principal investigators at meetings or conferences.
May supervise exempt and non-exempt research and support personnel and/or student workers as needed.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: At least 3 years of relevant experience. Master's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s or Doctoral degree in applied behavior analysis, special education, psychology, early childhood education, or related field.
Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA or BCBA-D)
Experience working with children and/or adults with neurodevelopmental disorders
Experience carrying out training activities via tele-practice and experience with Black/African American and families from other racially/ethnically diverse backgrounds
Experience supervising others and coaching and supporting caregivers of children with disabilities.
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated excellence in organization and attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft office tools (word, excel, power-point, and outlook)
Proficiency in telehealth technology
Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
