Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Large Animal Internal Medicine

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Blacksburg, VA, invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, calendar-year, clinical non-tenure track or tenure track faculty position. The successful candidate’s clinical service will be in the Large Animal Internal Medicine section of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team supporting the teaching, clinical service, outreach, and research missions of the College. The successful candidate will share service and teaching responsibilities with faculty members in the Large Animal Internal Medicine section. The clinical duties of this position are varied and include inpatient hospital case management and shared after-hours hospital-based emergency coverage. Applicants must be committed to excellent patient care, exceptional client service, and strong referring veterinarian relationships. The large animal hospital caseload is varied and consists of approximately 80% equine and 20% other species (e.g., small ruminant, South American camelid, porcine). The successful candidate will join a team environment, working closely with colleagues in the Large Animal Internal Medicine Service, Large Animal Surgery Service, Equine Field Service, and Production Management Medicine Service.


Scholarly activity and participation in collaborative research will be expected with a clinical non-tenure track faculty position. The expectations for tenure track applicants include development of an independent research program with external funding. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to experiential, didactic, laboratory, and small group instruction of DVM students as well as training of house officers and/or graduate students. The successful candidate will also contribute to instruction of ACVIM residents as well as interns and residents enrolled in ACVS and ABVP training programs.


The VMCVM has four campuses: Blacksburg, VA - Main campus at Virginia Tech; Leesburg, VA - Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center; Roanoke, VA – Animal Cancer Care and Research Center; College Park, MD - University of Maryland. · DVM or equivalent degree
· Successful completion of a residency training program approved by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and Board eligibility
· Ample clinical experience in large animal internal medicine, which can include experience during residency training
· Eligibility for a Virginia faculty veterinary license
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
· Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

Status as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) and an advanced degree (MS/PhD) in biomedical sciences.
