The Department of Radiology & Medical Imaging at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a fellowship-trained Interventional Radiologist. Candidates must have a MD or equivalent degree, be eligible for Virginia State medical licensure, be fellowship trained in Interventional Radiology, be ABR Interventional Radiology qualification eligible or certified, and have a commitment to quality patient care, outstanding teaching and research. This is an open rank search; academic rank is dependent on qualifications and experience.

The Division has moved into a new space with 7 dedicated, fully equipped angiography suites, including a CT scanner that can be moved between two c-arm rooms for ablations and other CT guided procedures and a 14-bay recovery area. All faculty are part of a general service pool, that includes on-call responsibilities, and have opportunities for specialty focus. The Division performs peripheral arterial procedures including catheter-directed thrombolysis, angioplasty, atherectomy and stent placement. Venous work includes venous ablation/sclerotherapy for varicose veins, complex filter removals, venous access, and complex chronic venous recanalizations. Portal interventions includes TIPS, RTO techniques, and portal recanalizations. Dialysis access work includes fistula creation, angioplasty, mechanical thrombectomy, and stenting. Oncologic interventions including chemoembolization, ablation (all modalities available, and SIRT. A variety of other embolotherapy procedures including AVM, UAE, and PAE are also routinely performed. Nonvascular procedures include biopsies, pleural and peritoneal drains, abscess drainage, genitourinary interventions, biliary interventions, vertebroplasty, pain management, and lymphatic interventions. There is an inpatient admitting service and IR faculty are supported by 3 nurse practitioners and 3 physician assistants. There is outpatient IR clinic five days a week. Division members have opportunities to interpret peripheral CTA and MRA studies and non-invasive vascular laboratory exams.

Considerable research infrastructure is available, including research-dedicated equipment for fluoroscopy/angiography, MRI, CT, PET, and SPECT, as well as facilities for benchtop and pre-clinical/translational research. A Ph.D. faculty member oversees basic science vascular research and clinician scientists within the division are engaged in active programs related to oncologic and hemorrhage control research. The division has a dedicated clinical research coordinator and is involved with multiple ongoing clinical trials. The Division has 10 ACGME accredited integrated residency positions (two per year), and three independent residency positions. As the University of Virginia is an academic institution, teaching, scholarly and administrative activities are encouraged.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
