We invite candidates to apply for a 12 month, tenure track (research) faculty position in the Occupational Therapy Department, College of Health Professions, at Virginia Commonwealth University. The Department of Occupational Therapy is seeking a colleague to lead and collaborate in research and teaching, to participate in service to the department and university, and to contribute to leadership in the profession.

Occupational Therapy is a highly regarded and nationally ranked department within the College of Health Professions. The College encompasses nine departments fostering multiple opportunities for collaborative research and interprofessional education. Research supports within the college include a statistician in residence, helping the college secure over $5 million in funding within the past fiscal year. Opportunities are also available for faculty to partner with VCU Medical Center, a comprehensive academic medical center encompassing the College of Health Professions, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Massey Cancer Center, and the VCU Health System. An additional opportunity is to collaborate with research at VCU’s Center for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering (CERSE).

Position Responsibilities:
  • Research: Faculty member will engage in research to enhance knowledge in occupational therapy, including designing and conducting research studies, acquisition of grant funding, overseeing of research projects, and disseminating findings.
  • Teaching: Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the OTD and/or PhD program consistent with areas of knowledge and skill and department need. Teaching responsibilities also include student advisement and research and/or capstone mentorship.
  • Service: Faculty member will serve on the departmental, college, and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g., reviewer, conference organizer.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned research doctorate.
  • Junior faculty members will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding that complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
  • Senior faculty members will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse environment for faculty, staff, and students and a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level.
  • Record of external funding.
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as an occupational therapist in Virginia.
