Job Duties
This attorney will provide advice and representation to agencies within the Health and Human Resources Secretariat, including the Department of Health and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. Duties will include responsibility for representing the Department of Health in matters regarding the Certificate of Public Need Program and the licensure of hospitals, the Division of Vital Records, and the Offices of Family Health Services and Emergency Medical Services. This attorney will provide advice on interpretation of state and federal law and represent the Department of Health in state and federal court. This attorney will also represent the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services in federal and state litigation brought under the Americans with Disabilities Act or alleging violation of federal or state laws with respect to conditions of confinement. This attorney will provide back-up to the attorneys representing the Department of Health Professions and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a member of the Virginia Bar, possess excellent analytical, research, and writing ability, and demonstrate superior oral and written communication and litigation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of state and federal litigation experience is preferred.
