General Information:
At James Madison University, Well Dukes is seeking an Assistant Director to oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of a holistic, inclusive, and evidence-informed organizational well-being model for students. This new position reports to the Director of Health Promotion, and advances campus well-being by building capacity for student groups, clubs, and organizations to thrive. The Assistant Director supports this goal through data-informed policy and practice review, trainings, consultation, advocacy, and strategic campus and community partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Director of Health Promotion with strategic planning regarding organizational well-being that aligns with divisional and departmental mission, vision, and values
Use research and collaboration to develop, implement, and evaluate an organizational well-being model for the JMU community
Support evidence-informed strategies for organizational risk management and ensure compliance with regulations and legal requirements
Support campus-wide initiatives of a Health Promoting Campus
Contribute to Student Affairs equity and inclusion value by designing intentional and inclusive practices, policies, and programs to a diverse student population
Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive holistic health promoting initiatives that align with divisional and departmental mission, vision, and values
Develop and coordinate strategies for engagement, including but not limited to conducting needs assessments, policy and practice review, consultation services, trainings, programming, and creating referral pathways to campus partners
Develop and coordinate strategies for partner engagement
Advocate on behalf of students, student groups, and affiliates to improve and advance organizational well-being efforts
Assist with the comprehensive development, implementation, and administration of an evaluation plan to assess the fidelity and impact of organizational well-being initiatives
Oversee administrative functions which support organizational well-being efforts including scheduling, tracking, and documenting participants and referrals
Recruit, hire, orient, and supervise relevant staff
Manage financial resources of assigned programs, assuring those fiscal operations are consistent with good practice and university/state policy
Qualifications:
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree
A minimum of two years in a progressively responsible experience in a relevant setting which includes some supervisory and training experience
Basic knowledge of current and emerging college student health and well-being needs and trends, student development, student organization administrative and programmatic support, and evidence-based practice
Experience in learning-based outcome development and assessment
Experience serving diverse populations, with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion
Proven ability to effectively collaborate with partners to develop shared outcomes
Effective communication and facilitation skills
High level of organizational skills and proven record of delivering quality results in a timely manner
Ability to strategically and creatively manage a wide range of projects, and to work quickly and effectively on deadline projects
Preferred Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (Health Sciences, Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, Social Work,
Psychology, Sociology, Education, College Student Personnel Administration, etc.)
CHES, MCHES, NBC-HWC, NCC, or other relevant certification
A minimum of four years in a progressively responsible experience in a relevant setting which includes some supervisory and training experience
Demonstrated application of evidence-informed health promoting initiatives
Experience working in a higher education setting
Experience managing a programmatic budget and overseeing fiscal responsibilities
