Job Description

The Assistant Director for the Asian Cultural Engagement Center (ACEC), which is part of the Cultural and Community Centers (CCCs) within the Office for Inclusion and Diversity (OID) reports directly to the Director of the ACEC and is under the supervision of the Associate Vice Provost for Inclusion and Diversity. The Assistant Director will serve as a member of the OID team, support the Director of the ACEC, advocate for students within the community, enhance student engagement, and collaborate with the Director, other CCCs, and campus partners.

The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director will be to work closely with the Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) that are affiliated with the Asian American Student Union (AASU) to provide mentorship, advising, and guidance. Aside from being the main contact for APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) Registered Student Organizations, this position will provide leadership for the ACEC’s Graduate Student Mentorship Program, now into its third year. Along with the Director, the Assistant Director will help with implementation of the various programs and events that are hosted and/or co-sponsored by the ACEC throughout the academic year, especially carrying out the ACEC’s signature programs and events that take place during APIDA Heritage Month.

Another aspect of this position is to maintain all of the social media accounts and activities, including marketing, of the ACEC. This involves working with the Director to create the content for and circulate the ACEC’s monthly newsletter. When requested, the Assistant Director may also be asked to attend meetings requested by campus and/or community partners and be a resource for collaborations. The Assistant Director may also serve on key committees across the VT campus.

This position will be required to conduct outreach and play a key role with advocacy for the APIDA community. While much of this position is student-facing and interacting with undergraduate and graduate students, the Assistant Director may also, from time-to time, be asked to participate in faculty, alumni, and community engagement. This position will also help with assessment of key programs and events offered by the ACEC.
