Job Duties
The Assistant Director of Brand Marketing oversees the VMI brand while managing and maintaining all brand assets and logo requests regarding VMI trademarks. Additionally, this individual assists with the development and execution of annual marketing and advertising plans to increase awareness of the VMI brand locally and nationally with the public and key constituents and stakeholders. In collaboration with other members of the communications and marketing team, the Assistant Director of Brand Marketing supports marketing needs of departments and offices across post while strategizing ways to best showcase the strengths of VMI’s unique undergraduate program, including accomplishments of current cadets, faculty, and staff, each academic program, ROTC at VMI, research opportunities, and more through the VMI social media accounts, Institute publications, and digital marketing collateral for optimal cross-channel promotion. This position reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing.
Key responsibilities are:
-Manage the Institute’s trademark licensing program in accordance with General Order 42.
-Develop and maintain print and online branding guides for internal and external entities.
-Oversee all VMI branding across post on online, print, and promotional assets and
manage internal and external trademark requests.
-Educate offices and departments across post on VMI brand standards and ensure
internal and external materials are following current brand standards.
-Assist with the development and execution of annual marketing and advertising plans and campaigns to increase awareness of the VMI brand locally and nationally with the public and key constituents and stakeholders.
-Negotiate and procure marketing and advertising vendor contracts to produce marketing
and advertising campaigns as needed.
-Work closely with appropriate offices and individuals to support recruitment marketing
plans, on-campus enrollment activities, and off-campus new cadet recruitment materials
and events are consistent in messaging and branding.
-Update recruitment publications annually for review.
-Oversee the creation and facilitation of videos used for recruitment and brand promotion
purposes.
-Support, as needed, the tracking and measuring of marketing efforts for annual marketing
and recruitment strategies and campaigns.
-Work with offices and departments across post to support and facilitate their marketing needs for marketing collateral – print, online, promotional products, displays/banners, etc., and coordinate the production of such materials when needed.
-This includes collaboration with graphic designers and vendors when necessary and the
Web Manager as appropriate for changes to VMI.edu.
-Support events across post as necessary for marketing and promotional needs.
-Collaborates in the content creation for the Institute’s social media presences in accordance with General Order 71.
-Supervises the Institute’s videographer and approves requests for video resources while ensuring all video content adheres to brand guidelines.
-Ensures major events such as graduation and commissioning, parades, guest speakers, legislative reception, and others reflect the richness of the VMI brand.
-Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and Marketing
Minimum Qualifications
-A self-starter with excellent organizational skills, capacity to manage a heavy workload and balance competing priorities, flexibility, and strong project management skills.
-Excellent skills with standard Microsoft Office applications, preferably in a Mac environment. Knowledge of, though not mastery of, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
-Work collaboratively with other elements of the office and of the Institute, as well as vendors.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Four or more years’ experience in a marketing role in a professional environment.
• Experience in higher education preferred.
• A self-starter with excellent organizational skills, capacity to manage a heavy workload and balance competing priorities, flexibility, and strong project management skills
