Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Director of Building Operations and Student Activities in the University Center & Student Activities. The successful candidate will provide oversight for the daily operations within the Upchurch University Center to include: scheduling all set ups for events taking place in the Upchurch University Center and hiring, training and supervising the Set Up Crew and working closely with housekeeping and facilities management; The Assistant Director also serves as the advisor to Lancer Productions, the campus program board and Order of Omega. This position is part of the Student Engagement Unit within Student Affairs which includes professional staff members within the areas of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Leadership Development, Multicultural Affairs, Education and Prevention Programs and the University Center and Student Activities. Collectively, this unit aims to provide transformative learning opportunities within a diverse and inclusive environment where all students can develop the skills, competencies and attitudes of an engaged citizen leader.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
Coordinate all room set-ups; manage equipment inventory, and coordinate maintenance schedules
Recruit, select, train, and supervise the set-up crew who work at the Upchurch University Center
Train students in use of Trello for daily building responsibilities; assess student staff based on learning outcomes
Review student staff reports on a daily basis and share information in the reports to the appropriate staff member and/or campus department
Provide building coverage and room set-ups after hours
Coordinate opportunities for regular feedback about the Upchurch University Center from facility users and students.
Serve as an essential employee in times of inclement weather, and as a Campus Responder
Advise and work closely with Lancer Programs in their program development, event coordination and implementation and budget management
Develop learning outcomes for Lancer Productions members and assess their learning at the end of the spring semester
Support student leaders in managing all administrative paperwork for Lancer Productions including budget development, reviewing contracts, submitting payment requests, making hotel reservations for all artists, and monitoring the budget to stay within the allocation received by SGA
Provide training for Lancer Productions in August and throughout the year as needed
Advise Order of Omega and provides advisement in planning Hazing Prevention Week, Greek Week, Greek Awards, Greek Sync and membership selection
Plan New Lancer Days activities and sit on the Family Weekend and First Friday Back and The GAME committees
Requirements:
Master's degree in Higher Education, Leadership, Student Personnel, or related area preferred; Bachelor's Degree required
Two to four years progressive responsibility within Student Affairs required
Knowledge of and experience with building operations, student staff supervision, public relations, and event coordination
Graduate Assistantships will be viewed as qualifying experience
Technical expertise, knowledge and experience with 25Live, Trello, and Social Tables
Knowledge of student development theory
Availability to work an irregular schedule including evenings and weekends
