The Beirne B. Carter Center for Immunology Research at the University of Virginia welcomes applications for an Assistant Professor position in immunology research. A Ph.D. or M.D. in immunology or a related field and a minimum of 3 years of appropriate postdoctoral experience is required. Candidates should have an outstanding potential for developing a strong independent research program. The Carter Immunology Center is a nexus for basic and translational immunology research that bridges multiple Departments at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. This position provides a unique opportunity to build a highly collaborative, translational, and rigorous research program using state-of-the-art resources available at the Carter Immunology Center and the School of Medicine. Candidates with expertise in systems immunology, human immunology and immunotherapy, immunopathology, advanced imaging, and functional genomics are highly encouraged to apply. However, outstanding applications in all areas of immunology research will be considered.
The candidates will join our vibrant, highly interactive, and collegial research environment of 13 resident faculty and 32 member faculty in the Carter Immunology Center (CIC) ( https://research.med.virginia.edu/cic/faculty/ ). Current areas of research among CIC members include cardiovascular immunology, cell-autonomous immunity, intracellular signaling and effector function of lymphocytes and phagocytes, antigen processing and presentation, immune responses to tumors, immunotherapy, allergy and autoimmunity, neuroimmunology, host-pathogen, and host-commensal microbial interactions. Ample resources are available to support junior faculty development within the CIC and the School of Medicine. These include exceptional research core facilities ( https://med.virginia.edu/core-facilities/cores/ ), grants and administrative support, and faculty development programming ( https://faculty.med.virginia.edu/facultyaffairs/ ). Future faculty will participate in the teaching and mentoring of graduate students and medical students in programs that are supported by ten NIH-sponsored training grants. Future faculty will engage in our ongoing commitment to support the development of scientists from diverse backgrounds within our local and broader scientific communities.
