The Department of French at the University of Virginia invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor whose scholarship is anchored in French and francophone global literature and culture from 1500-1700. Deeply committed to multidisciplinarity and innovative teaching, the department seeks a new colleague whose work challenges temporal and geographic boundaries while engaging with broad areas of humanistic inquiry, such as race and religion, nation and empire; the history of the book and digital humanities; ecocriticism and environmental humanities; gender and LGBTQ+ studies; or performance studies. The successful candidate will be someone able to foster ties with colleagues working in other departments and with interdepartmental units and programs, such as the graduate certificates in Premodern Cultures and Communities, Digital Humanities, and Women, Gender and Sexuality; the Islamic Worlds Initiative; or the School of Data Science.
