The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Virginia, and University of Virginia Children's Hospital, seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor on the tenure-ineligible Clinical Faculty track.
The patient population being evaluated and treated includes children with all types of diabetes mellitus, pituitary hormone deficiencies and/or excesses, adrenal disorders, calcium and bone metabolism disorders, electrolyte abnormalities, thyroid disorders, short stature, gonadal dysfunction, disorders of sexual development, gender dysphoria, Prader-Willi syndrome, obesity including bariatric surgery adolescents, and any other condition that might involve abnormalities of the endocrine hormone system. Outpatients are seen in the Battle Building, a unit of the University of Virginia Children's Hospital Clinics in Charlottesville, via telemedicine from Charlottesville, and at satellite clinics across the region. Clinical responsibility will include a share of inpatient service and night and weekend call. There are currently seven full-time faculty and two nurse practitioners, an Endo/Diabetes psychologist, five Diabetes RN care coordinators, two social workers, two dietitians and an active Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship program.
Candidates must have an MD or DO and must be board-certified or board-eligible in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. The position requires experience and expertise in evaluating and treating medically complex children with endocrine dysfunction(s). In addition, this position requires the teaching skills and experience necessary to teach, precept and serve as a role model for fellows, residents, and medical students. This position requires an individual with a patient-centered approach to clinical care and a passion for striving to achieve the ideals of the highest quality and safety in clinical care.
University of Virginia Health is composed of the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, University Physicians Group and the Medical Center. The Medical Center is a 735-bed, level 1 trauma center that serves as the primary, specialty and sub-specialty hospital for central Virginia. The UVA Medical Center and the UVA Children's Hospital are located near the main university grounds of the University which is annually ranked as one of the premier public institutions in the United States. The UVA Children’s Hospital is ranked #1 in Virginia and the Pediatric Endocrinology program has been ranked by US News each year for the past 6 years. We are located in Charlottesville, a picturesque, cultured, cosmopolitan community with a charming, small-town feel. The successful candidate will pass a criminal background check and pre-employment health and drug screenings per University policy.
Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
This position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in the future, consistent with SOM Promotion and Tenure guidelines and candidate qualifications.
