The Department of English and Modern Languages in the Cook-Cole College of Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time, tenure track position (F0033) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2025.

We desire candidates with expertise or research interest in emerging technologies and generative AI to complement our department strengths in rhetoric and composition studies. The successful candidate will engage their teaching and scholarship on topics such as writing and emerging technologies, digital media, critical AI studies, user-experience design, generative AI management, or other areas that reflect the candidate's strengths. Additional areas of interest could include digital humanities, medical humanities, gaming/media studies, and science writing. We would welcome candidates whose teaching includes conversations about the roles professional communication and writing can play in promoting equity and an inclusive community. In addition to the primary responsibility of innovative undergraduate teaching, applicants should demonstrate collaboration skills, the ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, evidence of scholarly activity or scholarly potential, and a commitment to undergraduate teaching. We are a collegial university and department committed to teaching and strong student-faculty interaction.

The successful candidate will embrace the opportunity to work closely with students. Courses may include Introduction to Rhetorical Studies, Introduction to Digital Writing, Technical Writing, Professional Writing, and courses in the candidate's expertise. The department expects candidates to have an active scholarly agenda in Rhetoric/Composition and provides support for these activities. There are opportunities for curriculum and course development within the department, the University's Civitae Core Curriculum, and the interdisciplinary minors in U.S. Race and Ethnic Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. The normal teaching load is four courses per semester with a class size of no more than 25 students.

Job Requirements:
  • Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in English or Composition Studies/Rhetoric (PhD or EdD); ABD candidates must have an expected completion date by August 2025 for preferred consideration.
  • A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission.


Additional Information:

This position is a full-time, tenure track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
