The University of Virginia’s Department of Drama seeks applicants for the position of Assistant Technical Director. This twelve-month position reports to the Technical Director and supports the planning, build, run, and strike of productions during the academic year and the Virginia Theatre Festival, our professional summer season.

The Drama Building is a state-of-the-art theatre complex, which includes the 520-seat Culbreth Theatre with proscenium stage, the flexible 160 to 200-seat Helms Theatre, and the 300-seat Ruth Caplin Theatre, a thrust theatre. The Drama Building also houses classrooms with state-of-the-art technology, studio space, costume and scene shops. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Four years of experience required. Must be able to prioritize and execute tasks accurately in a fast-paced work environment. Must have excellent organizational and collaborative skills. Must be able to effectively communicate with and respond to faculty, staff, students, and professional theatre artists. Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret procedures and regulations specific to technical direction in theatre. Must be committed to a safe and equitable work environment. Preferred experience: AutoCAD and/or Vector Works; carpentry, welding, and rigging; development of safety documents.

The expected salary for this position is $23.08 - $24.04 hourly (annualized $48,000 - $50,000) commensurate with experience and qualifications.This is a non-exempt level, benefitted position. For more information on the benefits at UVA, visit hr.virginia.edu/benefits.
