The Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia (UVA) seeks applications for the position of the Program’s associate director. This position is a General Faculty (non-tenure eligible) position, on a twelve month contract, with an initial three-year term that is open to renewal.
The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester and assist the director in carrying out the Program’s administrative tasks. These include budget preparation, the organization of conferences and speakers, and the planning of graduate-level courses for high school teachers in the areas of civic education and social studies.
Qualified candidates must possess a PhD at the time of hire and be prepared to become an instructor in the Program’s two principal courses, The American Political Tradition and The American Political Economy. Specialty in such areas as political theory, American political thought, American politics, and American history are usual preparations for this position.
The associate director will hold the rank of assistant professor and receive a competitive salary.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
