The University of Virginia's Department of Economics of the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences invites applications for the newly established James H. and Elizabeth W. Wright Jefferson Scholars Foundation Distinguished Professorship at the rank of Associate or Full Professor (the position is with tenure; the distinguished professorship is a five year renewable term). We are interested in candidates working in labor economics who demonstrate excellence in the application of cutting-edge methods to questions across subfields such as the economics of education, aging, immigration, crime, search models, inequality, race or discrimination. Applicantsshould be established national and international leaders in the field, with highly influential publicationsalong with an outstanding record of teaching undergraduates and advising Ph.D. students in their research.

We seek candidates dedicated to our mission and passionate about teaching in a world-class institution. Candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels and provide service to the Department, professional organizations, the university, and the Jefferson Scholars Foundation by serving on Foundation selection committees, attending Foundation events, and helping the Jefferson Scholars Foundation recruit Scholars and Fellows.

The Department aims to recruit faculty dedicated to building and extending a top-tier research portfolio, including developing external funding to support research endeavors. The Department of Economics is eager to attract ambitious scholars eager to work together and build on the intellectually vibrant community for economists at the University.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Ph.D. or terminal degree.
Experience: Three years
Licensure: None

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
