    Job Description

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Medical Oncology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.  This position will be either tenure-track or clinical track based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team in the Animal Cancer Care & Research Center (ACCRC), within the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute’s biomedical research building in Roanoke.  The successful candidate will join an oncology team that includes 2 other medical oncologists, a radiation oncologist (a second radiation oncologist search is open), 2 surgical oncologists, 3 medical oncology residents, 1-2 oncology interns, 1 medical dosimetrist/radiation therapist, 1 radiation therapist/CT technician, and multiple oncology technicians and assistants. The ACCRC is equipped with a USP800 compliant chemotherapy administration suite, a 64-slice CT scanner (Siemens SOMATOM Confidence), digital radiography, ultrasonography, 3 operating rooms, and a state-of-the-art linear accelerator (Varian Edge) with stereotactic radiation therapy capabilities. Other technologies available include a small animal (rodent) PET/CT and PET/MRI, and soon a Siemens Magnetom Prisma MRI 3T scanner for clinical use.

The ACCRC opened its doors in 2020 and has had a steep trajectory in clinical and research areas.  The successful candidate will be instrumental in its continued growth. The ACCRC serves as a premier small animal cancer research hospital to provide exceptional, comprehensive, and compassionate cancer care. ACCRC aims to distinguish itself nationally by growing the nexus between human and veterinary medical clinical and translational research. Its strategic placement physically within the Roanoke biomedical campus, and functionally at the core of the Virginia Tech’s Cancer Research Alliance, will provide excellent opportunities for professional growth of the successful candidate.

There are regularly scheduled shuttles with Wi-Fi that travel between the Blacksburg and Roanoke campuses. Roanoke is 3.5 hours’ drive from Washington, DC, with direct connections via train and airplane.
