VCU has an exciting opportunity for a Bicycle Program Coordinator in VCU's Campus Enterprises for their Parking and Transportation Services unit.

The Bicycle Program Coordinator promotes bicycling on the VCU campus by assisting with the operation of the RamBikes facility and with the management of all related programming. The Bicycle Program Coordinator works to expand bicycling programs and support for VCU students, staff, and faculty who use bicycles for transportation or leisure. The Coordinator evaluates programming through data collection and reporting, and is responsible for maintaining VCU’s status as a Bicycle Friendly University. The Coordinator works within the university and with community, city leaders, and organizations on bicycling issues and projects and supervises the part-time and Federal Work Study staff of the RamBikes facility.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Program Coordination and Administrative Duties
  • Supports the sustainable transportation goals of Parking and Transportation at VCU, creates measurable goals to expand bicycling and works across departments to have bicycling represented in various plans
  • Delivers and tracks programming related to the Bicycle Friendly University status. Evaluates and prepares reports on usage of programs, recommends new programs with intended outcomes and success measures
  • Manages RamBikes facility; including staffing and operations and commuter rental fleet. Tracks facility usage, increases operational efficiency, orders necessary parts and supplies for the shop and programs

Staff Supervision
  • Supervises, trains, and manages part time staff in the RamBikes facility
  • Sets clear expectations that are well communicated and relates these to the objectives of the bicycle program
  • Ensures that staff has the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability to accomplish goals and gives staff frequent and constructive feedback
  • Works with the Sustainable Transportation Manager to hire and train new staff in accordance with university procedures, and addresses and documents any performance issues

Outreach and Education
  • Serves as a resource on bicycling initiatives for all University departments by educating, promoting, and providing pertinent information
  • Creates and delivers educational workshops on mechanics and designs bicycle rides provided to students, faculty and staff
  • Works with Outreach and Advocacy Intern and Communications & Marketing Coordinator to develop content for web pages and social media, to advertise programming, and to promote bicycle and pedestrian safety
  • Collaborates with Sustainable Transportation Manager to maintain university information on bicycling infrastructure and data on cycling on campus
  • Participates in events on campus to promote bicycling and bicycle safety, conducting outreach to various student services offices, collaborating internally to deliver programming or participate in University events

Communication and Planning
  • Communicates and promotes bicycle program initiatives to students and to the community
  • Proactively seeks our bicycle program information and innovative practices. Liaises with counterparts at other educational institutions, businesses, government, and the community to promote collaboration and information exchange
  • Works with external partners to participate in community and city biking programs, meetings, and initiatives as approved by the Sustainable Transportation Manager

Other Duties as Assigned
  • Performs all duties as assigned by the Sustainable Transportation Manager or Assistant Director of Transportation or designee in a timely manner
  • Reports issues to management and ensures effective and immediate communication between units and departments within the organization
