Virginia Peninsula Community College (VPCC) is located on the Virginia Peninsula in the heart of Hampton Roads, a region renowned for being the birthplace of America and home to communities rich in culture and industry. Bordering Chesapeake Bay, the region boasts beaches, major attractions, world-class museums, and a vibrant visual and performing arts scene. The area is known for its economic vitality, which includes being home to several military bases, ship building facilities, the NASA Langley Research Center and Jefferson Lab, major colleges and universities, and varied commercial industries and enterprises.

The search will remain open until the position is filled; however, to be considered for the initial screening, candidates should submit an application package by April 22, 2025. Our anticipated start date for this position is August 2025.

VPCC is a comprehensive community college, offering a variety of programs of study leading to an associate’s degree, certificate, or career studies certificate. In addition to the many popular transfer degree programs, the college is known for its strong career & technical programs and its outreach to the community as a partner and leader in workforce development.

Founded in 1967, VPCC serves over 8,500 students each year in credit instruction and over 2,500 in non-credit instruction and workforce services. The College is served by over 80 full time faculty, 200 adjunct faculty, and 150 staff members. Faculty and staff are strategic and responsive, committed to understanding and meeting the needs of the region.

The College has two campuses, one in Hampton and the Historic Triangle Campus located in Williamsburg. The College also has a satellite site at the Southeast Higher Education Center in Newport News. The communities served by the College are the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the Counties of James City and York.

Accounting/Business faculty must provide instruction, support, assessment, and mentorship to Virginia Peninsula Community College's students. Faculty are required to participate in the mission and community of the college entirely. The primary emphasis shall be on teaching by working with students in classrooms, distant learning, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities to help the students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity.
Duties and responsibilities

Teaching Load
Teach minimum of 15 credit hours/24 contact hours of lecture, laboratory, simulation, and/or clinical courses each semester and/or other instructional load as assigned, which may include classes at the Hampton or Historic Triangle campuses and/or off-site locations; on-campus and online classes; day, evening, and/or weekend classes. Contribute high levels of energy, engagement, creativity, and leadership to the teaching and learning environment.
Professional Activities and Contributions
Design, develop, and assess curriculum. Serve in the role of a faculty mentor for students and contribute to College governance and to service. Collaborate in a diverse and collegial organizational culture with high standards for performance. Remain current in the academic discipline and in trends in teaching through professional development, further education, and/or scholarship.
Office Hours
To promote the availability of faculty to work with individual students, all full-time faculty members are required to post on or near their office doors a minimum of 10 hours per week as student contact hours to be available to work with students on their individual academic and occupational concerns.
Additional Activities/ Temporary Assignment
Additional activities include committee work, student activities, volunteer and/or community activities, student advising, and professional activities, e.g., discipline-specific initiatives as well as program assessment. The teaching Faculty may be temporarily assigned non-teaching duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master of Business Administration or related degree, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Accounting, from a regionally accredited institution; Or, Master’s degree in Accounting, with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Business, from a regionally accredited institution. Commitment to supporting diverse learners.
Specialized knowledge:
  • Knowledge of concept-based curriculum.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of program assessment principles.
Skills:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated teaching and educational facilitation skills.
Abilities:
  • Ability to work at all campuses.
  • Ability to assess student performance and progress and to provide appropriate feedback.
  • Ability to promote higher-order thinking and problem-solving among educational participants.
  • Ability to adhere to established standards for educational quality.
  • Ability to maintain complete, accurate educational record and submit final grade rosters to the division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
Additional Considerations:

  • Experience working in an accounting, finance, or business arena
  • Experience teaching in a community college setting.
  • Experience teaching online, hybrid and or traditional face-to-face classroom modalities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes
