Job Description
The Department of Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation seeks a business manager to process and manage the financial and budgetary functions of the department. This position will also provide support to and, at times, a backup role for the department's administrative and human resource functions. Responsibilities include advanced financial support for the department, effective oversight of departmental budget allocations, startup packages, graduate funding, salary allocations, grant funding, compliance, payroll, and managing state, federal, and research funding. This includes the management of the departmental McIntire Stennis, Multi-State, and RREA proposals and federal funds allocation. The position reports to the college's Assistant Dean for Business, Finance, and Administration. However, the incumbent will work closely with the department head and executive administrative assistant to manage all departmental financial processes.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent training and or experience.
Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Experience in progressively responsible financial/administrative positions.
Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate business management support services.
Demonstrated experience with current office software.
Ability to prepare financial and budgetary reports.
Must operate independently and demonstrate the ability to work professionally with diverse faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and secure documents.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of the university’s Banner financial and human resources system.
Experience querying the financial and human resources data warehouses, Web Reports, and MicroStrategy.
Knowledge and experience with the use of the University Data Commons.
Knowledge of pre and post-award grant administration.
Advanced spreadsheet skills, such as manipulating large data sets, pivot tables, and conditional formatting.
Experience with university systems, such as PageUp, TimeClock Plus, Chrome River, FINTRACS, leave reporting, and CashNet.
Knowledge of VT foundation funds, processes, and reporting.
Knowledge of 208 Education and General Funds, 229 Agricultural Experiment Station Funds, and 229 Virginia Cooperative Extension Funds.
Knowledge of federal funding related to McIntire-Stennis, Regional Research (Multi-State), and RREA funds.
