Job Duties

The Nursing Department provides 24-hour direct care services to geropsychiatric patients. The goal of care is to facilitate discharge to a less restrictive setting by assisting patients to improve and/or maintain their physical, mental and social functioning. This nursing care goal is achieved in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care, including assisting with activities of daily living, observing and reporting changes in physical or behavioral status, and implementing therapeutic interventions in accordance with treatment plans and hospital policies. Duties include escorting patients, maintaining accurate documentation, assisting with admissions and discharges, following safety protocols, and supporting behavioral guidelines and special precautions. The CNA also participates in team conferences, attends mandatory training, and maintains compliance with attendance and scheduling requirements. All duties are essential to ensuring patient safety, quality care, and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Driver’s License
• Licensure as a Certified Nurse Assistant by the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
• Basic computer knowledge

Additional Considerations

• Health care experience preferred
• Long Term Care and Nursing Home experience preferred.
• Previous psychiatric experience preferred
• Knowledge of nursing scope of practice preferred
• Bilingual Spanish and English preferred
