The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care to join our team of 1 DACVECC and 4 emergency faculty. The position is a Clinical Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join a team of specialists in emergency & critical care, surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care. Our ECC service has expanded over the past few years and we are now looking for a second criticalist. We are excited about the prospect of creating a new emergency and critical care residency and are looking for someone who is interested in helping to build an inclusive, innovative and excellent program.
The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service and scholarly missions of the College. The successful applicant is expected to participate in didactic teaching of veterinary students in emergency and critical care medicine as well as supervision and training of veterinary students and rotating interns in the emergency & critical care rotation. The applicant is responsible for triage and primary case management of emergency and ICU patients as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians seeking critical care for their animals. The applicant is expected to work with a diverse staff and clients in the community in a way that promotes the principles of equity and inclusion in veterinary medicine. Primary management of emergency and intensive care unit patients is expected as well as supervision and support of students, house officers, and the emergency faculty. Research responsibilities will vary based on the interest and qualifications of the candidate and will include primary, collaborative, or translational research to meet expectations. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work with ongoing research programs and contribute to the scholarly achievements of the department.

Required Qualifications
● DVM or equivalent foreign degree by the date of hire
● Completion of an American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC) residency program by the date of hire.
● Excellent interpersonal interactions and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and a desire to participate in a diverse, dynamic community.
● Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire.
● Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings
• Commitment to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion, and demonstrated success in building and supporting a diverse student community.
Preferred Qualifications
● Diplomate status in the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) or the European College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ECVECC) is preferred.
● Demonstrated advanced clinical experience.
● Experience in teaching and/or training house officers
● Previous scholarly activity.
● Previous scholarly activity, including but not limited to advanced degrees (Master’s, PhDs, etc.)
