Job Description

The Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM) Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, Blacksburg, VA, invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, calendar-year, clinical non-tenure track faculty position in Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team supporting the teaching, clinical service, and research goals of the College. A commitment to the values of belonging, equity, and inclusion are critical for this role. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere and a desire to participate in a diverse, dynamic community are essential.

The successful candidate will share emergency service and teaching responsibilities with faculty members in the Large Animal Internal Medicine and Large Animal Surgery services. The duties of this position have an emphasis toward clinical service in after-hours emergency coverage. This position offers a unique opportunity to have a major role in design and implementation of a dedicated large animal emergency service, including expansion of emergency and critical care exposure for veterinary students. Applicants must be committed to excellent patient care, exceptional client service, and strong referring veterinarian relationships. The large animal hospital caseload is varied and consists of approximately 80% equine and 20% other species (e.g., small ruminant, South American camelid, porcine). The successful candidate will join a team environment, working closely with colleagues in the Large Animal Internal Medicine Service, Large Animal Surgery Service, Equine Field Service, and Production Management Medicine Service.

Scholarly activity and participation in collaborative research commensurate with a non-tenure track faculty position will be expected. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to clinical experiential, didactic, laboratory, and small group instruction of DVM students. The successful candidate will also contribute to instruction of interns and residents enrolled in ACVS, ACVIM, and ABVP training programs.

The VMCVM has four campuses: Blacksburg, VA - Main campus at Virginia Tech; Leesburg, VA - Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center; Roanoke, VA – Animal Cancer Care and Research Center; College Park, MD - University of Maryland. Blacksburg is a friendly university town in southwest Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than 20 miles from the Appalachian Trail and Jefferson National Forest, and within driving proximity to major metropolitan cities.
