Summary
This is a unique opportunity for someone trained in clinical and community-based research who is dedicated to addressing issues such as social determinants of health, reduction of health disparities, and public health issues including obesity prevention. This position requires attention to details to build databases and ensure the highest quality in project implementation as well as a skillset for excellent written and oral communication working with diverse community partners, building and maintaining trusted relationships.
Typical Duties
Assist Primary Investigator in all aspects of research development and high-quality implementation (both clinical and community-based) including research program building, building databases, collecting data, quality assessment, recruitment, retention, developing progress reports, working with Community Advisory Boards, building and maintaining trusted relationships with all stakeholders including community partners.
Coordination Management: Responsible for IRB submissions, developing Manual of Operating Procedures, building databases, building the necessary research team to meet the needs of the project, training and certifying team members to ensure highest quality data collection abiding by the highest ethical standards in both clinical and community settings, quality oversight of study implementation with generation of reports, routine communication with all stakeholders working closely with the PI, oversee recruitment and retention, work closely with managers, administrators, and finance experts to ensure appropriate budgetary expenditures, develop all materials for team meetings and research reports (for Community Advisory Board, grant agencies etc.).
Enrollment: Work closely with the PI to create, maintain and update recruitment plans, screening, study enrollment and retention. Creative problem solving when barriers are encountered. Develop weekly reports of expected recruitment to observed rate to assist with team problem solving.
Reporting/Communication: The Clinical Community Research Coordinator will be responsible for providing direct pre and post award management support for the Department of Pediatrics. The Clinical Community Research Coordinator will assist in the development and submission of proposals and in the compliant financial and administrative management of sponsored awards. This position provides an opportunity to work in a fast-pace environment with potential for career growth in the field of Clinical Research Coordination for those presenting a willingness to learn and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty and staff.
Retains all study records in accordance with sponsor requirements and university policies and procedures. Maintains effective and ongoing communication with sponsor, research participants and PI during the course of the study.
Generating Additional Funding: Work with the PI to identity potential grants and assist with grant writing, conducting literature reviews, etc.
Essential Qualifications

--Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience --Several years progressively responsible work experience --Formal clinical research education and experience --Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, and diverse environment and adapt to changing client status, regulations, and work environment --Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology --Excellent discretionary decision-making skills --Independent, self-motivated, and organized --Detail-oriented; excellent problem-solving skills --Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
--4 years clinical research experience, with children and families preferred --Current employee who is familiar with VCU and VCUHS processes and systems --Advanced knowledge of Community Advisory Board, grant agencies, regulations, and guidelines
This is a restricted position with no set end date; continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
