Job Description:
Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. Mountain Gateway Community College is seeking a highly skilled and motivated part-time Clinical Lab Instructor to join our Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and supervising students in the clinical laboratory setting, ensuring they gain hands-on experience and develop the necessary skills to succeed in the field of medical laboratory technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide instruction and supervision to MLT students during their clinical rotations in various laboratory disciplines.
  2. Ensure students follow established protocols and safety guidelines while performing laboratory procedures.
  3. Assess and evaluate student performance through practical exams, assignments, and direct observation.
  4. Offer mentorship and feedback to students to support their academic and professional development.
  5. Collaborate with faculty and clinical preceptors to maintain high educational standards and program requirements.
  6. Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
  7. Assist with the preparation of clinical lab materials and equipment.
  8. Stay updated on the latest trends and advancements in medical laboratory technology.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:
  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field (required).
  2. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) from a recognized certifying body (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) is preferred.
  3. Minimum of [X] years of clinical laboratory experience in a medical setting.
  4. Previous teaching or mentoring experience in a clinical or educational environment is a plus.
  5. Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and safety protocols.
  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
