Job Duties

** Regular schedule is Monday–Friday, with alternative flexible scheduling options (e.g., four 10-hour shifts) available based on operational needs. **

Central State Hospital is recruiting for a Clinical Psychologist to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to supporting the wellness and safety of individuals and their communities throughout the Commonwealth. This position provides comprehensive psychological assessment, treatment, consultation, and forensic evaluation services to individuals receiving inpatient behavioral health care. Responsibilities include conducting admission, annual, suicide risk, and court-related psychological evaluations; providing individual therapy, competency restoration, supportive counseling, and psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) group services; and collaborating with interdisciplinary treatment teams to develop, implement, and evaluate individualized treatment plans. The Clinical Psychologist also develops and monitors behavioral intervention strategies, provides consultation and training to clinical and direct care staff, maintains timely and accurate clinical documentation that meets departmental and regulatory standards, and demonstrates a commitment to evidence-based, recovery-oriented, person-centered care. The successful candidate will exhibit sound clinical judgment, professionalism, cultural awareness, and a commitment to promoting positive patient outcomes while advancing the hospital's mission of supporting the wellness and safety of individuals and their communities throughout the Commonwealth.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Successfully Perform the Job:

- Requires knowledge of psychological/therapeutic theory and evidence-based practices.
- Requires experience providing psychological services including treatment planning, assessment, and individual/group therapy with adults with serious mental illness.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:
- Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Clinical Psychologist by the Virginia Board of Psychology.
- Experience providing mental health services to clients with severe mental illness required.

Additional Considerations

Preferred:
- Prior experience working in an inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health facility.
