Mission or Goal of Unit: Pursue the Research, Clinical and Education Missions of the academic medical center in the areas of Hematology, Oncology, and Palliative Care. Through bench research, clinical trials and the rigorous study of prevention and control, our scientists pursue the many roles of medicine in treating, preventing and controlling the adverse effects of cancer. Our hallmark activity is translational research, where our physicians and scientists work to bring laboratory discoveries to the patient bedside as quickly and safely as possible. Through our training programs, our faculty train the next generation of scientists and physicians to further advance science and practice.
Chief Purpose of this position: The VCU School of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Oncology and Palliative Care and Massey Cancer Center are seeking a Clinical & Translational Investigator with a focus in Genitourinary Oncology to practice at our flagship and satellite locations. This position will have a lead role in developing the GU Oncology Program at Massey Cancer Center. This position will have a role in advancing the clinical research mission and will be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the Massey Cancer Center.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the lab and while in the clinic. Expected to actively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows.
Research | This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovative clinical trials in Genitourinary Oncology (GU) to the Massey Cancer Center and the VCU region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships. Ability to collaborate with Basic Science Investigators will be key in developing a translational research program. This position will be expected to establish extramural partnerships with the ultimate goal of offering the most innovative drugs in GU oncology to patients at the Massey Cancer Center before they are standard of care.
Service | It is expected that the incumbent will be active in decreasing Health Disparities in the community served by Massey/VCU
Clinical | Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service and/or sees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on GU tumors.
Required Qualifications:
Board certified or eligible in Medical Oncology or Hematology
Eligible for Virginia licensure
Academic track record supporting the rank of Professor or Associate Professor
Seasoned cancer specialist who possesses national and/or international recognition in the clinical and research disciplines of cancer
Clear evidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g. - publications) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career
Experience in program building
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
