The VCU C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research is seeking a Community Engagement Program Manager to undertake a variety of administrative and program management tasks related to the Community and Collaboration Core of the Clinical and Translational Science Award, an NIH funded grant. This position will primarily work to integrate community engagement into all functions of the Wright Center and ensure that community engagement is linked to all of its activities. By working to engage patients and communities in every phase of the Translational process, the Wright Center helps evaluate and enhance our health system’s engagement activities, which in turn, seeks to improve the translation of research results into real-world practice.
Incumbent will work to build collaborative teams within the Wright Center. The purpose is to integrate community engagement into all functions of the Wright Center to ensure it is linked to all activities and initiatives, from faculty development training programs to informatics, of the Wright Center.
Typical Duties
1.Under the direction of the Wright Center Community Engagement Core Director, incumbent manages the Wright Center’s community engaged research (CEnR) initiatives. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Assist with the development and delivery of mechanisms that encourage, support and grow community engaged research initiatives, such as workshops, seminars, research mentoring opportunities, etc) conducted by the university •Assisting in identification and networking of interdisciplinary research partners for collaborative community engaged research projects. This may include the identification of appropriate Request for Applications (RFAs), identifying potential faculty researchers whose research interests match these funding opportunities, and connecting these researchers for potential collaborations and projects. •Developing templates, institutional materials, web-based materials, and other materials that may assist university researchers in community engaged research. •Work with the Director of the Community Engagement Core to provide quarterly reports to the Director of Evaluation for reporting to NIH •Work with the relevant faculty and staff of the CEnR Core to provide support in program development and management •Track and maintain progress on programs led by the CEnR Core
2. Represents the Wright Center on the university-wide committee working to develop a comprehensive approach for community engagement at VCU
•As part of this assignment, incumbent works to help define the university wide supports for the governance and organization, capacity building, research and partnership, outcomes assessment, and dissemination of community engaged research at VCU; encourage collaboration across departments and institutions across VCU to support community engaged research; and oversee Wright Center involvement in OneVCU approach to community engaged research.
3.Comunication and Outreach
•Determines communications strategy and works with Center’s communications specialist to promote and disseminate programming information to university community and other stakeholders about the Wright Center’s community engagement initiatives.
4. Compiles and tracks vital data to demonstrate impact of Center’s community engagement initiatives through assessments, reporting and metrics.
•Manages the reporting requirements to NCATS and other stakeholders as needed to ensure that all grant requirements are met in a timely manner and accurate information is provided. •Prepares annual reports to document project progress and outcomes. •Complete national surveys requested from NIH regarding CEnR Core activities •Collect and monitor community engaged research outcomes metrics
Typical Education and Experience
•Bachelor's degree in public health or relevant field or combination of equivalent education. training, and experience. Significant experience may be accepted in lieu of degree •A minimum of 3 years’ experience as program coordinator or relevant position •Knowledge of program management and development procedures •Ability to work with diversity and multi-disciplinary teams •Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU •Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines •Excellent time-management and organizational skills •Outstanding verbal and written communication skills •Detail-oriented and efficient
Preferred Experience
•Master’s degree in public health, business administration or relevant field •Experience working in a community based setting
