Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Position Summary: To support the overall operations and core functions of the Community Feed at TCC with a mission of service to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Functional Responsibilities: Provide accurate information to questions from current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the Community Feed at Tidewater Community College with reference to the college, its programs, and services. Provide follow-up as needed via telephone and/or email correspondence. Serve as the first point of contact in the Community Feed coordination and triage processes. Assist in the triage process relative to the students utilizing services; in addition to assisting volunteers with training sessions. Assist students using the Link2Feed and OrderAhead online programs; assist with the client intake process, record services, and manage programs in a way that is both dignified and respectful. Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and guests. Monitor the student check-in system to provide appropriate staff support. Assist in the storage, organization, inventory, and the restocking of shelved and freezer items.
Ensure lobby/seating areas are clean, posters are date appropriate, and display rack applicable information available to students and the public. Ensure that the desk reference online systems are maintained and updated. Place literature/magazines to the waiting area tabletops prior to the commencement of work hours and remove items at the end of the workday. Refer and/or direct telephone calls and visitors to requested locations. Create a supportive and welcoming environment. Complete other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Knowledge and skills in using email and various software programs
· Knowledge of effective customer service techniques
· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse public
· Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighting up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis; prolonged walking, standing, and frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching
Preferred Qualifications:
· Knowledge of safety practices and protocols
· Ability to prepare and manage schedules
· Knowledge of data collection and to preparation of reports from collected data
· Ability to work independently and organize workload
· Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making skills as they relate to food inventory and servicing students, faculty, staff, and the public.
