Job Duties
The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Department of Computer and Information Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The appointment begins August 1, 2023.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate computer science courses at all levels. The standard teaching load is 3-3. Additional responsibilities include advising students, engaging in scholarship, mentoring students in undergraduate research and serving on institute committees. Current faculty specialties include cybersecurity, software engineering, information technology, database systems, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and mobile computing. Candidates with specialty in algorithms, networking, or theory of computation/programming languages will be an ideal complement and will have preference. All specialties are welcome and encouraged to apply.
Members of the faculty wear uniforms and adhere to military customs and courtesy although military experience is not required.
Applicants should submit a cover letter detailing their qualifications and desire to be a faculty member in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at VMI, a statement of teaching philosophy, a statement of research interests, a CV and three letters of recommendation. Minimum Qualifications
• The position requires a Ph.D. in computer science or closely related field.
• Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, including the ability to mentor undergraduates in research projects, and have an ongoing program of scholarly activity.
