Facilities Management supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,100 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for managing the University’s Major Capital Construction and Renovations Program, the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University owned and leased properties.
We have an exciting opportunity for two individuals to join the UVA Health Division of Capital Construction and Renovations (CC&R). We have openings for a Construction Administration Manager or Senior Construction Administration Manager, focused on healthcare, research and infrastructure projects. CC&R supports Facilities Management's goals by providing managerial support for all design, engineering, and construction services, and procurement for all construction contracts and design/engineering professional services contracts for the University community. The incumbent closely coordinates with the Office of the University Building Official and the Office of the Architect for the University.
Position Summary:
Construction Administration Managers perform day to day construction phase management on projects for the University. They provide administration and coordination during the construction phase of various projects at the University of Virginia’s Academic and UVA Health Divisions. A portfolio will include a limited number of more complex projects or several smaller projects. Construction Administration Managers facilitate the efforts of architects, engineers, contractors, and various University departments and State agencies. They promote completion of non-capital and capital projects by developing, monitoring, and managing project requirements. Construction Administration Managers work autonomously on routine management and correspondence concerning construction from inception through project close out, however, they report to and receive guidance from Team Leaders.
Senior Construction Administration Managers perform construction phase management on significant or logistically challenging projects for both the Academic and UVA Health Divisions at the University. A portfolio will include a single major project or group of projects with superior importance, size, or complex functionality. Senior Construction Administration Managers coordinate the involvement of other departments and agencies at various stages of construction to ensure compliance and technical approval is received and does not affect budget or schedule. They promote completion of major capital projects by developing, monitoring, and managing complex project requirements and providing advanced construction administration management services from contract award through close out of new and renovated University facilities. Senior Construction Administration Managers work autonomously on management and routine correspondence concerning construction; however, they report to and receive guidance from Team Leaders.
Responsibilities for the Construction Administration Manager include:
Receiving project assignments and review with the project team and the customers their goals and objectives for the project.
Ensuring contractors comply with negotiated contract documents.
Issuing daily report, noncompliance notices, and cost issue log.
Reviewing preliminary and final plans; make recommendations for improving engineering details and construction practicality.
Overseeing occupancy, turn over and close-out process.
Determining construction progress and resolve construction problems with project manager, architect, and contractor.
Demonstrated proven ability to work with registered engineers, architects and project managers to facilitate successful construction.
Providing excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism, accuracy, and follow through in work assignments.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
In addition to the above, responsibilities for the Senior Construction Administration Manager also include:
Executing development of the construction phase and provide comprehensive construction administration management services on major capital projects.
Assigning project personnel to specific phases of construction or aspects of construction administration management.
Required Qualifications for the Construction Administration Manager:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field; In lieu of degree, a successful candidate must have a minimum of eight (8) years of project or construction management of Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP) building systems.
Four (4) years’ experience in project or construction management of MEP building systems.
Preferred Qualifications for the Construction Administration Manager:
Master's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
Registered Professional Architect or Engineer
Required Qualifications for the Senior Construction Administration Manager:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
Seven (7) years’ experience in project or construction management of major Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP) systems in large complex institutional buildings.
Preferred Qualifications for the Senior Construction Administration Manager:
Master's degree in Engineering, or Construction Management
Registered Professional Architect or Engineer
Compensation:
The minimum starting salary for the Construction Administration Manager is $74,000.00; actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience. The minimum starting salary for the SeniorConstruction Administration Manager is $90,000.00; actual starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
