Position: Coordinator for Student Organization Finance (Sr Financial Technician 1)
Summary
The Coordinator for Student Organization Finance serves as the primary financial educator, trainer and advisor to Division of Student Affairs Student Activity Fee (SAF) funded student organizations (and faculty/staff that advise them).
Develops, implements, and maintains student org finance training and education programs
Develops and manages student org finance policies, procedures and guidelines
Reviews, compiles, distributes all financial transactions for SAF funded student organizations
Ensures that all financial reporting systems for student organizations are maintained and that financial records for student organizations are up to date
Typical Duties
Senior Finance Technicians possess greater knowledge of administrative, logistical, operational, and technical tasks related to the financial services field, distinguishing them from Finance Technicians. They are further distinguished by the complexity of assigned work; an ability to identify options and develop solutions for unique or unprecedented situations; greater decision-making authority; and the judgment, resourcefulness, and ability to identify issues and/or areas that should be addressed differently. They are resources for others, participating in mentoring, coaching, and training.
Builds the student org finance module every year and archives the previous year's data
Processes budget allocations in the system
Inspects all purchase requests for completion and budget availability before compiling and distributing
Approves all purchase requests and assigns to a finance technician (FT)
Submits index requests and cross checks historical lists
Performs reconciliations monthly
Assists with student org finance reporting
Designs and updates the student org finance training, quizzes, and manual
Provides finance training to student orgs (including SGA) & faculty/staff advisors
Maintains communication to students, faculty, and staff
Serves as liaison with GSA, FSL, & SCC advisors on finance processes, policies, procedures, and submission templates/standards
Serves as liaison with The Commons and other DSA areas
Typical Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree
Excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently handle a variety of tasks in a high-volume and fast-paced area.
Ability to comprehend policies and procedures and guide students and faculty/staff.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with others both written and orally.
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
Ability to prepare reports and read, follow, and utilize complex financial reports generated by others.
Ability to analyze complex information and problem-solve.
Must be proficient in excel
Prior Finance Technician experience at VCU
Preferred Hiring Standards
Degree in a business or student development related field.
Several years of experience in a state/government business environment.
