Job Duties

Provides cosmetology care to HDMC residents with diverse mental/emotional problems and developmental disabilities ranging in age from adolescent to geriatric. Personal treatment includes hair care. Performs haircuts and routine hair care/treatment to all residents within Hiram W. Davis Medical Center including those patients admitted for special hospitalization. Provides trimming of selected residents' beards, ear, nose and/or eyebrow hair under the supervision of the Recreation Manager. Shampoos and conditions resident hair. Trims and cuts resident hair according to MD orders. Oil and massage male/female resident scalp as appropriate. Braid or style female resident hair. Cut, shampoo and towel dry men's hair. Files nails weekly.
Cleans, sharpens, adjusts, and maintains equipment used. Keep records of work performed. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies. Cleans blow comb with attachment. Cleans and soaks hair combs, hairbrush and clipper guards in Barbicide (cleaner/sterilizer for hair equipment) after each use for 35 minutes, then placed in clean water to soak until the next use. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the principle and procedures of providing cosmetology services. Skill in providing standard services. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively with others; and possess the physical ability to turn, bend and lift non-ambulatory adult residents without restrictions.

Ability to follow directions regarding Central Medical Equipment Supply (CMES) procedures and knowledge of equipment care, sanitation procedures and inventory control.
